On September 4, Parlay House was fortunate to have Sarah Shourd as our guest. Sarah was one of three Americans held political hostage by the Iranian government after hiking near the unmarked Iran/Iraq border in 2009-2010. She was in solitary confinement for 410 days before being released.
Upon her release, Sarah worked tirelessly to free her now husband and friend, appearing on Oprah and meeting with key figures such as Hilary Clinton, President Obama, President Talabani, Actor Sean Penn, Boxer Muhammad Ali, Musician Cat Stevens and President Ahmadinejad himself. She now writes, speaks and advocates against the use of prolonged solitary confinement in U.S. prisons. Her first play, The Box, completed a highly successful run at Z Space in San Francisco this past July.
Parlay House members had plenty of time to chat, build new connections and friendships, and enjoy wine and munchies. Many of you were delighted by Chef Chula Camp’s gold gazpacho recipe. From now on, she will share a recipe from each of our monthly meetings on this Recipes group page. Enjoy!
