Women in Iran have been leading the protest movement in Iran since September 16th, 2022 following the death of the 22-year-old Kurdish woman, Mahsa Jina Amini, at the hands of Iran’s morality police.

While these recent protests have garnered worldwide attention, the struggle for women’s rights in Iran isn’t new. If we’re going to be part of the solution, we should know more about the history and how we got here.

Please join us as we welcome Dr. Persis Karim, Professor and Director of the Center for Iranian Diaspora Studies, San Francisco State University, where she is also a professor of Comparative and World Literature. She’ll give us a brief background on the historic treatment of women in Iran, the connection to other women’s rights struggles, and insights about how we can act in solidarity with our Iranian sisters.

As always, food, drinks, and authentic connections will be provided.

We can’t wait to Parlay with you!
