Parlay House Miami joined with @miamiwaterkeeper for a day of adventure on the water! 🌊✨ They’re an amazing organization that works to protect the waters of South Florida and keep them clean and pristine.

Their experts led us on a magnificent kayak adventure in Biscayne Bay, teaching us about the harmful effects of pollutants on the marine ecosystem and what is being done to improve this. Along the way, we helped remove debris from the mangroves and surrounding waters, doing our part to help protect these vital ecosystems.

Loretta Ross is one of the nation’s most prominent Black feminists, and one of the foremothers of the reproductive-justice movement! Thirty years ago, she was part of a group of Black women who conceived reproductive justice as a political framework, an instrumental step toward understanding bodily autonomy as a human right.

Back when she was still a teen on her way to college, her mother told her: “Don’t let success go to your head, but most importantly, you don’t let failure go to your heart.” She has kept that lesson as a north star since.

“Hope is so vital to everything that we do, because we can’t be only defined by what we’re against,” she says. “We have to be defined by what world we build and want.”

Many founders or entrepreneurs we know went to business school and/or had mentors to guide them, but good the news... there’s more than one path to success!

Last night’s SF gathering was proof POSITIVE that there are hugely impressive founders who have taken less traditional paths and that becoming a founder is possible for anyone with passion, purpose, and the commitment to pursue something meaningful to them.

We were joined by Lina Mills (@creativeideascatering), Nafy Flatley (@terangafoods), and D’Andrea Robinson (@queens.gettin.lit) of the @rencenter, who opened up to us about their roads less traveled and how they are realizing their visions with style and substance.

With our NYC Petite Museum Tour right around the corner, we’re feeling inspired by the art that moves us, and the women makers who bring it to life! 🎨

Get to know some of our favorite artists...

1. Tamsin Smith is a San Francisco-based poet, painter, and essayist. Her dual art practice began as an exercise in balancing what is for her the cerebral work of word-craft with a more physical experience of painting.

2. Clare Kirkconnell is an artist whose work fluidly blends realism and abstraction across disciplines.Influenced by the natural world, a love of pattern and color, her extensive travels, and a lens of gratitude and awe, she sees the urge to make art as an expression of the spirit.

3. Janet Echelman creates experiential sculpture at the scale of buildings that transform with wind and light. Using unlikely materials like fishnet and atomized water particles, she merges ancient craft with computational design to create artworks that have become focal points for urban life all over the world!

4. Mary Jaeger is a textile and clothing designer who works from her atelier in Brooklyn. Drawing on her experiences in Japan, Asia, Southeast Asia, and Europe, she creates timeless fashion and interior collections that transition seamlessly between seasons, places, and occasions.

5. Julie Spencer is a contemporary artist working in acrylic, oils, and mixed media. Her background as a classically trained violinist and writer can be felt in her mix of fluid brush strokes accented by staccato and letter-like lines to guide the viewers’ eye to “hear” her paintings.
